As part of the efforts aimed towards implementing the Global Health Security Agenda of 2012, while embracing the requirements of International Health Regulations of 2015 and One Health (OH) principles, the government has established a One Health Coordination Desk (OHCD) in the Office of the Prime Minister. OHCD is primarily mandated to spearhead coordination of multi-sectoral and –disciplinary collaboration and cooperation in human, livestock, wildlife, environmental and plant health systems.
In accordance with the rolling plans, OHCD aspires to organize OH-dedicated conferences in partnership with professional associations and R and D institutions such as TAWIRI and NIMR after every two years. This arrangement is aimed at taking aboard various groups of professionals as part of OHCD’s efforts to expand the scope of reach out to the general public.
To kick-start this, the Desk has teamed up with TVA to organize the first One Health Conference on the 27th to 29th November at AICC, Arusha. This conference is thus dedicated to the subject of One Health. As such, Days 1, 2 and part of Day 3 will involve mainly policy and research papers in One Health.
Therefore, OHCD and TVA EXCO would like to invite you all to participate in OH-dedicated dialogues, which are likely to shed light in regard to future operational framework. This is so because we are yet to fully operationalize multi-sectoral and –disciplinary partnership, underpinned by enhanced sharing of resources and information.
Your inputs and possible guidance will thus be instrumental in shaping the course of action, as the country aspires to be an exemplar in OH approaches.
Meanwhile, I would like to express my sincere appreciation to various research groups for supporting the coming conference in various ways; notably by submission of research papers for conference presentations and discussions; availing various forms of communication materials that have already been reflected in the conference book of abstract and some being availed for exhibitions and for extending financial support. I will certainly acknowledge this to individual research groups/scientists through other correspondences after the conference.
It is our hope that you will be able to find time to attend the conference amidst your tight diaries and other tasks.
Please join us, even if it is not for the entire conference period.
