Sumu hii huchafua vyakula kwa sababu kuvu wa Aspergillus hupendelea kuota kwenye aina mbalimbali za vyakula kama mahindi, karanga, mihogo mikavu na kadhalika.<\/p>\n<p>Zipo aina zaidi ya mia moja za sumu kuvu, lakini moja inayoitwa <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Aflatoxin_B1\">aflatoxin B1<\/a> ndiyo tishio zaidi hasa kwa sababu ndiyo inayoyopatikana sana kwenye vyakula, lakini pia ina madhara makubwa ya kiafya ikiwemo saratani ya ini, udumavu, kuzupunguza kinga ya mwili dhidi ya magonjwa ya kuambukiza nk.<\/p>\n<p>Katika utafiti tulioufanya hivi karibuni kujaribu kutafuta mbinu mbalimbali za kudhibiti sumukuvu, tumegundua kwamba mahindi yakisagwa au yakihifhadhiwa kwenye chombo ambaco hakiruhusu hewa kupenya kirahisi (hermetic storage), inapunguza kwa zaidi ya asilimia 80% kiwango cha sumukuvu itakayotengenezwa wakati huo wa kuhifadhi.
