Biography

Dr. Makungu joined Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA) in 2002 as a Veterinary Clinician at the Teaching Animal Hospital. She qualified as a Veterinarian from SUA in 2001. Dr. Makungu received her Master of Veterinary Medicine degree in Veterinary Surgery and Radiology from SUA in 2006 and a PhD degree in Veterinary Anatomy from the The University of Pretoria, South Africa in 2015. She began her career as a Tutorial Assistant in the Department of Veterinary Surgery and Theriogenology in 2003 and rising through the ranks to become a Senior Lecturer in 2015. Her interests in Diagnostic Imaging enabled her to receive an International Veterinary Radiology Association (IVRA) Bernstein Travel Fellowship in 2006. In 2007, she received an IVRA Educational Scholarship to undergo clinical training in Diagnostic Imaging at Onderstepoort Veterinary Academic Hospital, South Africa. Dr. Makungu has over 15 years’ experience in teaching Veterinary Surgery and Diagnostic Imaging to non-degree, undergraduate and postgraduate students, and has supervised several students in their research. She serves as an External Examiner, Department of Clinical Studies, the University of Nairobi since 2018. Dr. Makungu is a member of the Tanzania Veterinary Association (TVA), International Veterinary Radiology Association (IVRA), Tanzania Small Animal Veterinary Organization (TASAVO) and the Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD).
