Makungu joined <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sua.ac.tz\/\"><strong>Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA)<\/strong><\/a> in 2002 as a Veterinary Clinician at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cvmbs.sua.ac.tz\/animalhospital\/\"><strong>SUA Teaching Animal Hospital<\/strong><\/a>. She qualified as a Veterinarian from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sua.ac.tz\/\"><strong>SUA<\/strong><\/a> in 2001. Prof. Makungu received her <strong>Master of Veterinary Medicine <\/strong>degree in Veterinary Surgery and Radiology from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sua.ac.tz\/\"><strong>SUA<\/strong><\/a> in 2006 and a PhD degree in Veterinary Anatomy from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.up.ac.za\/\"><strong>University of Pretoria<\/strong><\/a>, South Africa in 2015, for research into the \u201cAspects of the morphological, radiographic, and ultrasonographic anatomy of the red panda (Ailurus fulgens) and ring-tailed lemur (Lemur catta)\u201d. She began her career as a Tutorial Assistant in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cvmbs.sua.ac.tz\/veterinarysurgery\/\"><strong>Department of Veterinary Surgery and Theriogenology <\/strong><\/a>in 2003 and rising through the ranks to become Associate Professor in 2019. Her interests in Diagnostic Imaging enabled her to receive an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ivraimaging.org\/\" class=\"broken_link\"><strong>International Veterinary Radiology Association (IVRA)<\/strong><\/a> Bernstein Travel Fellowship in 2006. In 2007, she received an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ivraimaging.org\/\" class=\"broken_link\"><strong>IVRA<\/strong> <\/a>Educational Scholarship to undergo a clinical training in Diagnostic Imaging at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.up.ac.za\/veterinary-hospital\"><strong>Onderstepoort Veterinary Academic Hospital<\/strong><\/a>, South Africa. Prof. Makungu has over 21 years experience in teaching Veterinary Surgery and Diagnostic Imaging to <strong>non-degree<\/strong>, <strong>undergraduate<\/strong> and <strong>postgraduate<\/strong> students, and has supervised several students in their research. She served as an External Examiner, <a href=\"https:\/\/clinicalstudies.uonbi.ac.ke\/\"><strong>Department of Clinical Studies<\/strong>, <strong>Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Nairobi<\/strong><\/a> from 2018 to 2021. Prof. Makungu is a member of the Tanzania Veterinary Association (TVA), <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ivraimaging.org\/\" class=\"broken_link\">International Veterinary Radiology Association (IVRA)<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/owsd.net\/\">Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD)<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Prof. Modesta J.
