Clara Yona

Clara Yona, a Masters of Philosophy student at the Department of Microbiology, Parasitology and Immunology of the College of Veterinary and Medical Sciences, is conducting research on African swine fever epidemiology and socio-economic impact in Tanzania. She is a scholarship recipient from the Flemish Interuniversity Councilof the Belgian Development Cooperation (VLIR-UOS)TEAM project 2015 titled “Improving livelihoods through control of viral diseases affecting short cycle stocks”.

GARA CONFERENCE 2016

Clara Yona, a Masters of Philosophy student at the Department of Microbiology, Parasitology and Immunology of the College of Veterinary and Medical Sciences was awarded with a Travel Award by United States Strategic Command Center for Combating Weapons of Mass Destruction ofThe Defense Threat Reduction Agency to attend and make an oral presentation at the 3rd Annual Scientific Workshop organized by the Global African Swine Fever Re-search Alliance (GARA)and hosted by ANSES - French Agency for Food, Environmental and Occupational Health & Safetyin Ploufragan, France between September 6-8, 2016. Clara Yona presented a paper on describing the Status of African Swine Feverin Tanzania.




TVA CONFERENCE 2016

Clara Yona, a Masters of Philosophy student at the Department of Microbiology, Parasitology and Immunology of the College of Veterinary and Medical Sciences was awarded with a Travel Award by the Flemish Interuniversity Councilof the Belgian Development Cooperation (VLIR-UOS)TEAM project 2015 titled “Improving livelihoods through control of viral diseases affecting short cycle stocks” to attend the Tanzania Veterinary Association (TVA)34th Scientific Conference held at the Arusha International Conference Centre (AICC) from the 6th to 8th December 2016 in Arusha. Clara Yona presented a paper on African swine fever domestic cycle dominance in Tanzania.




EMERGING ZOONOSES 2017

Clara Yona, a Masters of Philosophy student at the Department of Microbiology, Parasitology and Immunology of the College of Veterinary and Medical Sciences was awarded with a Travel Award by Cooperative Biological Engagement Program ofThe Defense Threat Reduction Agency to attend and make an oral presentation at the International Conference on Emerging Zoonoses, focusing on Emerging and Transboundary Infectious Diseases in Manhattan, Kansas, USA between May 7-10, 2017. Clara Yona presented a paper on African Swine Fever Domestic Pig Cycle Dominance and its Socio-economic Impact in Tanzania.
